PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY

SUPPORTING CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE & THEIR FAMILIES

At Hummingbird Psychology we specialise in supporting children, young people and their families experiencing a range of difficulties relating to their mental health and well-being, including:

– Attachment difficulties/developmental trauma
– Anxiety and mood related difficulties (including depression and OCD)
– Emotional understanding and regulation
– Social and emotional related difficulties (including bullying, self-esteem, assertiveness)
– Self-harm/suicidal ideation
– Neurodevelopment difficulties including ASD (see also Autism assessments – hyperlink) ADHD and PDA

A comprehensive psychological assessment  and formulation helps us to tailor our interventions to ensure that they are both helpful and meaningful to the individual. We understand that no child exists in isolation of their family and environment, and therefore aim to bring together all aspects of the child’s world together. This often means working collaboratively with family and other professionals involved. We are also able to offer additional packages of support and training to schools and other services.

We understand that talking to others about our thoughts and feelings can be scary. Dr Anna May has more than 15 years of experience in supporting children and young people with their mental health. Her warm and compassionate approach enables her to develop a positive rapport with the families she supports and to help them feel safe and secure. Anna works in an integrative way which allows her to tailor her intervention to the needs of the individual and family. Psychological models she draws upon in her clinical work include:

– Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)
– Therapeutic parenting
– Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
– Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
– Sensory processing and integration

“Trauma is not what happens to you; trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happened to you.”
